Types of Asphalt Shingle Roofs

With the variety of options that asphalt shingle roofing provides, homeowners are able to achieve a unique look on the home without breaking the bank. These are the asphalt shingle types that roofing professionals like Elo Roofing can install in Palm Coast homes:

Three-tab Asphalt Shingles

Three-tab shingles are the most common type of asphalt shingle roofing, classified by their cutouts which make them look like three separate pieces. They’re affordable, lightweight, easy to maintain, energy efficient, and can last up to 20 years.

Architectural Asphalt Shingles

Laminated with an additional asphalt layer and bonded with asphalt sealant, architectural shingles have a more defined, structural look and are more durable and waterproof than three-tab asphalt shingles. They come in a variety of shapes, colors and sizes and can easily mimic the look of more premium roofing alternatives like cedar and slate.

In addition to these types, there are also different materials that your shingles could be made of:

Fiberglass Shingles

Made with a combination of woven fiberglass as the base, asphalt coating, and ceramic granules on top, these materials create a waterproof and UV-protectant shingle while also being extremely lightweight and thin due to its lower amounts of asphalt.

Organic Mat-based Shingles

Organic mat-based asphalt shingle roofing has a recycled felt paper layer for its base. They’ll be heavier, thicker, and slightly more expensive than fiberglass shingles but they’re also more rugged and flexible.

Advantages of Architectural Shingle Roofs

These are just some of the reasons why architectural shingle roofs are one of the tops choice for home roofing in Palm Coast.

Durability

One of the key factors distinguishing architectural shingles is its multiple layers of material. This contributes to its strength and durability. It also makes them particularly resistant to extreme winds.

Customizable

Homeowners love the fact that they can determine exactly what their architectural roof can look like. It allows you to bring a personal touch to the look of your home and achieve a unique look.

Lightweight

Three-tab shingles are well-known for their incredibly light weight. This becomes advantageous in situations where the home’s structure may not be able to bear the weight of heavier materials. The great thing though, is that it’s just light enough to ensure it won’t easily be blown off or compromised during extreme weather conditions.

Easy installation

Installing architectural shingles is a simple process that could even be DIY’d by homeowners that are adventurous enough. This ease of installation also impacts overall costs as labor requirements are less than it would be for a typical residential roofing alternative.

Dustin Richards inspected our roof this past week,I believe on 3/13/25. Three other companies also inspected it during the last
3-4 weeks. Dustin was the most professional & he took more pictures than any of the others & explained in greater detail
the condition of my 25 year old TileLife cement tile roof.
I will continue to use his services in the future because I am convinced he is honest & has great integrity.

I wanted to thank Elo Roofing for the outstanding job on my roof after storm damage. Chris Clarkson did a great job explaining to me the process and giving me very accurate information to start roofing repairs. Nicole was an excellent liason at their office handling correspondance and business. Tim Taylor handled the project completion. Once again, very professional, accurate, and on time and on schedule. Everyone I delt with at Elo Roofing helped to make a difficult process smooth. The new roof looks great. Elo's crew did a great job, and left the worksite clean and in good order. Would absolutely recommend and work with again in future. Hope this helps. 😃👍

They were supposed to do a repair on our roof due to leakage, after they looked at it. They never scheduled. After calling them several times with no response, and waiting on them, we finally found a great company that got the job done.
