Types of Asphalt Shingle Roofs

With the variety of options that asphalt shingle roofing provides, homeowners are able to achieve a unique look on the home without breaking the bank. These are the asphalt shingle types that roofing professionals like Elo Roofing can install in Palm Coast homes:

Three-tab Asphalt Shingles

Three-tab shingles are the most common type of asphalt shingle roofing, classified by their cutouts which make them look like three separate pieces. They’re affordable, lightweight, easy to maintain, energy efficient, and can last up to 20 years.

Architectural Asphalt Shingles

Laminated with an additional asphalt layer and bonded with asphalt sealant, architectural shingles have a more defined, structural look and are more durable and waterproof than three-tab asphalt shingles. They come in a variety of shapes, colors and sizes and can easily mimic the look of more premium roofing alternatives like cedar and slate.

In addition to these types, there are also different materials that your shingles could be made of:

Fiberglass Shingles

Made with a combination of woven fiberglass as the base, asphalt coating, and ceramic granules on top, these materials create a waterproof and UV-protectant shingle while also being extremely lightweight and thin due to its lower amounts of asphalt.

Organic Mat-based Shingles

Organic mat-based asphalt shingle roofing has a recycled felt paper layer for its base. They’ll be heavier, thicker, and slightly more expensive than fiberglass shingles but they’re also more rugged and flexible.

Types of Metal Roofs We Install

Aluminum Roofing

Aluminum is lightweight and durable which cuts down on transportation and labor costs. As one of the more affordable metal roofing materials, aluminum doesn’t quite have the style of other metal roofs but what it lacks in style it makes up in value.

Copper Roofing

Copper roofing offers a level of curb appeal that can’t be achieved with any other roofing system on the market. Whether sporting the brand new shine when first installed or the unmistakable green patina of aging, copper roofs are known for their beauty and durability. As an added benefit, copper roofing can greatly increase your home’s value!

Steel Roofing

Steel is often the go-to metal roofing choice for local homeowners. Energy-efficient, recyclable, lightweight, and durable, steel roofing is easy to install and highly customizable. Steel also has a considerably longer life expectancy than other roofing materials and even other metal roofs making it perfect for anyone that’s looking for a roof that will last.

Corrugated Metal Roofing

Corrugated metal roofs come in large, prefabricated sheets that are easy to install. They’re inexpensive, lightweight, and built to last making them the perfect addition for many outdoor applications.

Standing Seam Metal Roofing

Standing seam metal roofing has become increasingly popular among Crescent City homeowners in recent years. These roofs come in a variety of seam types including snap-lock, mechanical lock, and batten panel. While the method of interlocking is different they all come with the benefit of fasteners that are hidden within the seam to protect them from the harsh and damaging elements.

Exposed Fastener Metal Roofing

Exposed fastener metal roofing is very similar to standing seam metal roofing in that it’s installed in long panels with visible seams. The difference between them is that the fasteners on exposed fastener roofs are – as you might guess – exposed instead of hidden underneath the seam. These roofs are more economical than standing seam roofs while still offering a unique look and superior protection than other materials.

Metal Shingle Roofing

Do you love the look of a shingle roof but you’re not so fond of the life expectancy, durability, or maintenance needs of other types of shingles? Metal shingles are what you want. These shingles are designed to look like shingles made from other materials like asphalt, cedar, and slate but offer the greater durability and protection that we love so much about metal roofs.

What Are the Advantages of a Metal Roof?

Metal Roofs are Energy Efficient

Metal roofing is able to reflect much of the sun’s heat and energy which can help save money on cooling costs. It’s estimated that the reflective properties of a metal roof can reduce your energy costs by as much as 20%!

Metal Roofs are Environmentally Friendly

Are you keeping a close eye on your environmental impact? A metal roof might be just what you’re looking for, then. Often, metal roofing can be made from recyclable materials. Even then, almost all metal roofing material can be recycled at the end of their useful life making this an extremely environmentally friendly choice.

Metal Roofs are Durable

Living in Crescent City, you need a roof that can stand up to the local weather. Studies conducted by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety have found that metal roofing is significantly more durable than standard asphalt shingles. If you’re looking for a roof that can handle anything the climate throws at it, metal is for you!

Hurricane Irma took a toll on our home’s roof causing it to be completely reroofed in 2018. Then our house lost several cap shingles complements of Hurricane Milton. ELO Roofings phones are manned by a human (even during weekends). We explained our problem, were scheduled within a few days & were even giving the arrival time plus name of the person (Jared Householder) who would arrive at our home and help us with photos and repairs. He phoned us informing of approximate arrival time and he did arrive on schedule. Jared is courteous and efficient! He took photos of our roof and effected our repair. ELO Roofing and Jared are awesome! We recommend them for your roofing needs and will definitely hire them when our next need occurs.

Had a small leak around my fireplace after some heavy rainfall, called on a Saturday and they arrived first thing on Monday. The project manager, Jared Householder, was very knowledgeable and honest with his expert opinions. He performed the maintenance thoroughly and even went above and beyond what he had to and sealed some minor cracks on our chimney. Their package for maintenance wasn’t as costly as we expected and covered quite a bit. We will definitely be repeat customers as needed. Thanks again, Jared!
