Types of Asphalt Shingle Roofs

With the variety of options that asphalt shingles roofing provides, homeowners are able to achieve a unique look on the home without breaking the bank. These are the asphalt shingle types Elo Roofing roof services provider can install in Jacksonville FL homes:

Three-tab Asphalt Shingles

Three-tab shingles are the most common type of asphalt shingle roofing, classified by their cutouts which make them look like three separate pieces. They’re affordable, lightweight, easy to maintain, energy efficient, and can last up to 20 years.

Architectural Asphalt Shingles

Laminated with an additional asphalt layer and bonded with asphalt sealant, architectural asphalt shingles have a more defined, structural look and are more durable and waterproof than three-tab asphalt shingles. They come in a variety of shapes, colors and sizes and can easily mimic the look of more premium roofing alternatives like cedar and slate.

In addition to these types, there are also different materials that your shingles could be made of:

Fiberglass Shingles

Fiberglass shingles are made with a combination of woven fiberglass as the base, asphalt coating, and ceramic granules on top, these materials create a waterproof and UV-protectant shingle while also being extremely lightweight and thin due to its lower amounts of asphalt.

Organic Mat-based Shingles

Organic mat-based shingles are a kind of asphalt shingle roofing has a recycled felt paper layer for its base. They’ll be heavier, thicker, and slightly more expensive than fiberglass shingles but they’re also more rugged and flexible.

Types of Flat Roofs We Install

EPDM Roofs

Also called, ethylene propylene diene monomer, flat roofs are just a fancy way to say that these roofs are made from a synthetic blend of rubber. Most often used for large office spaces, it’s a durable and affordable option for flat roofing. EPDM flat roofs are easy to install, but they’re also prone to leakages. So, it’s important that the flat roof installation contractors make sure the seams are sprayed with a protective sealant. These coatings will add cost but are well worth it to prevent water damage.

BUR Roofs

BUR roofs are a mixture of tar and gravel. This option has become popular because they’re aesthetically pleasing, they make your home more energy efficient, and they are quite durable thanks to the many layers. There are some downsides though. The layers of built-up flat roofing can make it very heavy, so your home will need a thorough evaluation to be sure the structure can bear the weight. Plus, the installation process creates a hazardous area so you won’t be able to live in your house during the renovation.

Modified Bitumen Roofs

Flat roofs are an affordable option but aren’t often used due to their delicate installation process. Because this flat roofing is secured using a blowtorch, it’s imperative that only seasoned flat roofing contractors do the installation. For most people, the dangers outweigh this flat roof cost but, if you’re willing to go for it, it’s a great budget-friendly option.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What’s important to remember here is that costs will vary depending on the type of asphalt shingles you opt for, as well as the roofing contractor and the materials they use. However, you can work on a ballpark of anywhere between $3.50 and $5.50 per sq. ft. to reach a broad estimation.
The average asphalt roof shingles are expected to last around 20 years. Regular maintenance and prompt repairs could help in extending this lifespan.
This is a matter of personal preference together with what works well with the design of the home. Fortunately, asphalt roofing provides a wide variety of colors to choose from to meet those needs. It’s best to discuss your options and ideas with your local roofing service provider before making the decision (which you’ll have to live with for at least the next two decades!).

I wanted to commend Elo roofing on the outstanding professional job they performed on my home from start to finish.First to Mark, for his great customer service of communication and professionalism of saying when the work would start and how it would be completed. To Nicole ,for giving the timeline of how the process would proceed and it was on point to the letter. The roofing team in terms of how they setup the job with care, laying out the covering to protect the surrounding areas that would be affected in their work area such as shrubs and plants so that debris wouldn’t contaminate those spaces. The roof is Beautiful, match the brick perfectly, the work is high quality, very clean. The whole team is Outstanding, they are to be commend! Highly, recommend 6 stars!

$27,964.11 for new roof in Oct. 2023. Roof leak March 2024. A repair was made on roof 4/10/24, and to ceiling in home on 4/30/24.Repair does not match rest of ceiling in home. ELO refuses to correct the problem. Two of ELO‘s own inspectors, and both repairmen that were at our house agreed that the cause of the leak was inadequate sealant being placed around the chimney when it was re-roofed in October 2023. I also have independent reports from two other roofers and two other sources that that was the cause of the leak. And I have photos, that would also confirm it.
