Built-Up Roofing Experts in Jacksonville

Built-up roofing (BUR), which is also known as “tar and gravel” roofing, has one of the most solid reputations in Jacksonville’s commercial roofing market. It is also the most common roofing material used on low-slope or flat roofs. While it has been common for some time, it is still a complicated process that requires finesse. Our roofers at Elo Roofing have the skills, training, tools, and expertise necessary to complete a BUR installation that will help to protect your building against damages, severe weather conditions, fire, and other events which might have an adverse impact on your structure.

Built-Up Roofing Advantages

There are many reasons why BUR roofing is one of the go-to options for commercial roofing. While it is a popular commercial roofing technique, it does require skilled expertise in order to ensure a job well done. Elo Roofing is familiar with this and other commercial roofing techniques so you can rest assured your commercial roof is in good hands.

The main advantages to a BUR roof are as follows:

  • Exceptional durability. Its multiple layers ensure that BUR roofs are built to endure a lot, from harsh weather to general wear and tear.
  • Resistant to extreme winds.
  • Seamless and waterproof. The continuous solid surface does not require seams, which seals off the areas that are most likely to leak over time.
  • UV Ray reflection. Provides protection from ultraviolet rays. This also functions as a cooling mechanism for the building.
  • Low maintenance. There is very minimal upkeep and maintenance needed after it is installed.

Components of Built-Up Roofs

The defining feature of built-up roofs is its multiple layers of materials, which are laminated together to give the roofing its durability. These multiple layers consist of the following:

Base sheet

The base sheet is the foundational layer and is usually made of fiberglass, asphalt coated organic sheet, or asphalt coated venting sheet.

Felts or fabrics

coal or tar saturated This layer is made up of organic felt, cotton fabric or burlap that has been saturated in coal or tar.

Bitumen

The most common material used for the bitumen layer is asphalt, but this can also include coal tar or lap cement.

Surfacing component

This outermost level consists of gravel, asphalt or minerals. This can also be topped with a reflective coating.

Rom Guzman was my project manager and he and his entire team did a fantastic job on my roof. They are very professional and do a Quality job with an amazingly fast turnaround time. They care of you every step of the way, from assessing your needs, through the approval process, and then completing the project and making sure everything is cleaned up. I cannot recommend them enough. If I could give them 100 stars I would! Give them a call for all of your roofing needs, Rom is the absolute best!

I had a very satisfying experience with ELO roofing. Tom and Amanda were very communicative throughout the process--especially with the potential problems that can come with replacing a roof on a 113 year-old so house that there were no surprises when those problems arose. Jay and his 4 man crew did a commendable job overcoming numerous damage issues and provided photos online throughout the day so I could see the work progress in all work areas in real time. The final product looks great and no issues have arisen during the several rain events since completion. With the extensive wood replacement required to perform the work correctly, Tom was also able to obtain a significant discount from their standard wood replacement charges so that the final price ended up being quite reasonable for the extensive amount of work performed--and which came in under the estimates of several other roofing companies which did not include that level of damage repairs. I wholeheartedly recommend that any homeowner strongly consider ELO roofing for your home roofing needs.

I recently had my roof replaced by Elo after Hurricane Milton. I worked with Ryan Boyd and also Nicole on administrative items all through the project. From quote to completion their work was professional, timely, reasonably priced and without issues. Several of my neighbors used Elo also and have had the same results. They used a quality product.
